Fight between brothers-in-law turns deadly

State police say a man beat his brother-in-law to death early Monday morning in Jackson County.

Virgil Abner, 32, was found dead at a home on U.S. 421 in McKee after an apparent altercation with Vernon Adkins, 33, according to a Kentucky State Police press release.

At about 2 a.m., Abner apparently cut Adkins with a knife and Adkins then beat him with his fists causing his death, Trooper Chris Lanham said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. The case will be presented to a grand jury, according to the release.

Delano, a graduate of the University of Akron, has won numerous awards for breaking news, spot news and investigative journalism.
