A southern Kentucky man has been indicted on an incest charge for allegedly fathering a child with his daughter nearly two decades ago.
Pulaski County Sheriff’s detective Brett Whitaker told the Commonwealth Journal the case against the now 78-year-old man started in 2005 when officials investigated a neglect complaint about the child, who was born in 1991.
Whitaker said DNA confirmed the man was the child’s father and grandfather.
The Associated Press doesn’t name alleged victims of sex crimes and isn’t naming the man in this case to protect the daughter’s identity.
Whitaker told the Somerset newspaper the man admitted a sexual relationship from the time the daughter was 13 until she was in her 30s. The man was not immediately arrested as authorities sought him following the indictment last week. Whitaker said the woman is now in her 40s.
I am not understanding??? From 13 to 30 and now 40??? Is she mentally handicap?? How did this happen if she is not??? 13 is old enough to tell and to know it is not “normal”
I guess this is KY and things like that are acceptable to some, but at 20+ you would tend to believe that she would know better…
Yeah, thats right folks….blame the victim. Did you ever stop to consider that at 13 she was a scared little girl who might have been afraid of her Dad at that time in her life and who might have taken advantage of the fact that he was bigger, stronger and more manipulative than her at 13? Geez, people, get a grip! I applaud her for having the courage to take a stand, even now.
Exactly. the victim is the one who should have known better, the first two people making these comments are weird. The father is the one who should have known better. Poor girl, who is now a woman with a child that is fathered by someone who should be a grandpa, not a pervert.
I SO agree with Ms. Hendricks. Stop blaming the victim. There was an abuse of the parental authority & child’s trust in this relationship. And what you learn & deal with as a child takes a while to undo as an adult.

I agree. At age 13, she was probably scared or maybe even at 20 yrs of age. He could have threatened her life or anything. We dont know the whole story. But dont blame the victim.
Sadly, this is way too common. Social services has huge files on some families where incest is an ongoing crime. It’s been hard to get the children to testify against the criminals, but now with DNA matching, maybe more of these animals can be put in jail.
Oh come on, IF this woman is not a disbled/mentally challenged person whom cannot help herself then she is somewhat to blame, did she not attend public school? interact with her peers? watch tv? Where was the mother/siblings? That just ain’t normal! Their are so many questions that need to be explored in this case, I suspect some family members may be knowing a few things they hid? Yes at 13 she may not have suspected this was sort of odd but at 25? I understand fear as have spending the last 23 years of my life in the criminal justice field, but anyone who advocates this behavior is just as guilty. Pray for this whole family.
It’s not like the article says she was showing up at free will. Maybe he was showing up at her house and raping her. We have no idea of the details. Don’t blame the victim.

I saw some of the other postings and had to add more in, sorry. Patterns that are established in childhood sometimes cannot be broken easily. I am sure she knew tht the relationship was abnormal, but who wants their Dad to go to jail if they tell? It is more complicated that most people realize. It is not an easy decision to know that your Dad, who on one level, society tells you that you should love and trust is taking advantage of you in private. Poeple can say what they want, but sexual abuse is something that is burned into your soul, especially when that abuse is dished out by someone who is supposed to be your hero in life. He is the one that others should be asking….was he mentally challenged or what? taking advantage of his own daughter like that!! People…..why blame her for not telling? He should be the one looked upon with a critical eye for manipulating her for his own selfish agenda. What was going on in HIS mind? At 13, 30 or 40, she isnt to blame…he is. He established a pattern early on and she was unable to escape it until now. Again I say, GOOD FOR HER and SHAME ON HIM!
I wonder why she didn’t come forward when she was 13? I also have to wonder what the statute of limitations are? A 20 year old crime! He should’ve prosecuted years ago!
Only in KY would this happen! I never hear of this happening in other states!
I guess no one really knows the whole story. I was married at 19 to a young lady and knew something was wrong. We had been married for about 10 years before she finally told me the truth. She had been molested by her father from the time she was so small she couldn’t remember when it started, he stopped when she started her periods at around 15. Why? I ask didn’t you tell. She didn’t want to tear up their home. Needless to say this pervert not only destroyed his daughter’s life, but affected mine as her husband and our childrend because of the mood swings and all that went with it. She started having an affair with some of the lowest scum in the neighborhood, made my life miserable, I stayed with her until children was grown and couldn’t take it anymore. She never knows why of anything. I wonder if they whys could be answered because she was taken advantage of by someone that should have been cuddling her, nurturing her and doing all the things a loving father should do. I think her mother was partly responsbile because I think she knew and let it go on to keep from having to be fooled with the bastard herself. When the father died, I saw her cry at his funeral. She said you love your father know matter what they did to you. Adults quit using innocent little children for an outlet. There are too many men and women willing to give it away out there than to have to destroy a child’s life. People like this should be hung on the courthouse square. Their not sick in my book, their demon possed and hell is too good for them. After they wreck the kids lives, many of them turn to God for salvation. Sometimes I want to question God and ask Him if this is even fair.
