CARLISLE — The lawyer representing a suspended Central Kentucky principal said his client felt threatened during an altercation with a student.

Nicholas County High School principal Joseph F. Orazen appeared in court for an arraignment Wednesday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to fourth-degree assault.

Orazen was suspended after an altercation last month with student Dusty Green, 15.

WLEX-TV (Channel 18) later released surveillance footage, saying it arrived at the station in an unmarked package. The video shows an outdoor confrontation between a male student and a man, whom WLEX reporters identified as Orazen and Dusty Green. The footage showed the man wrapping his arms around the student and slamming him to the ground.

“Believe me, there’s a whole lot more to this than a 10-second video,” defense attorney David Franklin of Lexington said.

He declined to elaborate on the threats made against Orazen during the altercation.

He said Green refused to leave school property when he returned after school to pick up a confiscated cell phone.

“He’s devastated,” Franklin said of Orazen. “It’s a bad situation he tried to avoid at all costs and couldn’t do it.”

Judge Jay Delaney denied a defense request to reduce bond from $7,500 full cash to about $2,000, which Franklin said is typical for a fourth-degree assault charge, a misdemeanor.

Delaney set the bond at 10 percent of $7,500, citing the nature of the allegations and relationship to the victim. He ordered that Orazen not have any contact with the victim and no other offenses.

But the judge let the school district decide whether Orazen should be allowed on school property, where he has children.

“I just want him to be held accountable,” said Green’s mother, Michelle Green of Carlisle, who attended the arraignment with her son. Orazen is scheduled to return to court at 1 p.m. April 1.

This guy obviously has anger issues due to the multitude of complains against him. And throwing a student around for talking on a cell phone? Throw the book at this creep!

If you are going to throw the book at anyone, throw it at this punk kid and his mother.

Lets wait until all the facts come out before we judge. The kid could of easily threatened the principal with not only a threat to the him but maybe to the his family.

The public has NO idea how much disrespect from some students that school authorities are required to put up with today. I think principals/teachers/aides should get combat pay along with their regular salaries.

Nothing said about talking on cell phone..
The statement in the paper was, TO PICK UP A CONFISCATED PHONE AFTER SCHOOL..
JT you should not make a statement if you can’t understand what was written in the paper.
    You must have problems!!!!!
That is one of the problems in this world–
    ignorant people making statements incorrectly.
You are to be felt sorry for.
PS: have no opinion on the matter itself, just hate to see things misrepresented by people.

I think the principal is getting bamboozled by the media. This kid is obviously defiant and challenged the principals authority. It looks in the video like the boy is trying to charge past him. If my son acted like that, I would be embarassed that the principal had to restrain him. I wouldn’t be leaking a video, I would be disciplining my son and he would apologize for his actions. The students actions caused this, the principal didn’t just go grab him and slam him, that is apparent.

Students threaten and assult teachers on a daily basis, and teachers are expected to stand by and allow this to happen. If the Principal did something wrong then punish him, however I have been in his situation before with Students who have pathetic parents and have intstilled in their childrens mind that it is their right to threaten teachers because quote “they can’t do anything about it”.

“Throw the book at this creep!”

What a typical, stupid resonse. You know nothing about the case other than what has been reported and have found the guy guilty. You are what is wrong with our litigious society today! Try and make an informed response sometime. What accountability does the kid have in this? Probably none because parent’s won’t take resposibility for their brat kids these days.
