CLARKSVILLE — Police say a child who a Fort Campbell soldier is accused of severely abusing has died from his injuries.
Clarksville arrested 20-year-old Joshua Ryan Starner of Clarksville, Tenn., on Saturday after the 23-month-old boy was found unresponsive in his bed at the soldier’s home.
Police spokesman Jim Knoll said that the child died Sunday at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville.
Starner is currently charged with aggravated child abuse and Knoll said homicide charges are pending.
His bond was set at $1 million. Starner is listed as a specialist corporal in the Army. He did not have an attorney listed in jail records on Sunday.

I hope he did not do what he is accused of–these things often get blown out of context–what was the cause of death and how did the soldier contribute to the true cause of death?
From what I have read so far on this investigation, there was no second or third party in the home of the soldier. I am sure that DNA evidence will prove the guilt of Spc. Starner. I also feel that a defence case of PTSD will not acquit him. I am a retired soldier, I have served my country for 22 years and have never once thought of hurting my own flesh and blood let alone anyone elses child. I also am diagnosed with PTSD,I have 3 children living with me. My PTSD symptoms do not affect them in anyway nor does it give me an excuse to harm them or my wife. The actions of Spc. Starner were beyond the conduct of the UCMJ, The Army and military personel who are currently and have served this country. In my own opinion Spc. Starner is a child molester and abusive montser.
I HOPE HE ROTS IN PRISON FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE… HOW CAN ANYONE HURT A BABY LIKE THAT… PIECE OF CRAP!!!!
You people have no idea what you are talking about! Josh is an amazing guy that has gone through some HORRIBLE things. There’s no proof that he did ANYTHING! So stop running your mouths about it! There’s all different levels of PTSD some people have it worse then others. Iraq has forever changed him and he’ll never be the same from it, maybe the Army should have taken better care of him!
That poor mother coming home and finding her child like that. You mark my words, she will never have a good night’s sleep again. What a terrible thing to do to a baby like that. I hope the civilians and JAG gets him good.
