McBeath retrial in pregnant girlfriend’s slaying scheduled

By Shawntaye Hopkins, shopkins@herald-leader.com

A Georgetown man convicted in October 2004 of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend appeared in court Monday for a hearing in the case, which is being retried.

Roger McBeath Jr. will return to court in Scott County April 6 for a pretrial conference. McBeath’s retrial was scheduled for April 17.

McBeath was found guilty in the January 2004 death of Ashley Lyons, 18, of Georgetown. Her family says she was meeting McBeath to show him an ultrasound image of their unborn baby.

The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that McBeath should get a new trial because a jail informant overstepped his bounds by questioning McBeath in jail about the shooting, and the defense was not allowed to question the accuser.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. He murdered his girlfriend. He doesn’t deserve another trial because someone asked him a question about it in jail. It’s a waste of time and money.

Just gives Ashley’s redneck family more of an opportunity to show how stupid they are on the evening newscast.

Murder is ignorance. People who support murderers is ignorance. Concern over a child’s murder is not.

Kim - what a spiteful thing to say about a family who has a murdered child, sister, etc. You must have some pathetic connection to the McBeath’s.

Kim’s comment was grossly inappropriate and contemptuous. I hope she never has to endure a family member being taken, especially one who had her whole life ahead of her and a child on the way. My sympathy goes out to the Lyons family.

I hope and pray that Kim never has to go through loseing someone in such a gruesome way. To say a comment as inapppropriate as that you must not have any value for human life. I know that family and they are neither stupid or rednecks. The fact you could say that shows how stupid you are.
