A Clay County minister convicted of laundering drug money and hiding a federal fugitive has been sentenced to 194 months in prison.
Wayne Reid, 60, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in London by U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves. Reid has been in prison since September.
Reid, a well-known Baptist minister, and his wife, Donna, were convicted of helping hide Larry Golden Jackson Jr., from authorities between the spring of 2002 and September 2005. Jackson, a large-scale marijuana dealer, was wanted during that time.
Prosecutors argued that between 2000 and 2005, the Reids received about $1.5 million in drug money from Jackson and his partner, Eugene “Moose” Stewart and helped launder the money by buying assets such as land, vehicles, heavy equipment and a convenience store.
The conviction contained a forfeiture count allowing the government to seize property from the Reids, including land and three houses. They also were ordered to pay $800,000.
The government took $200,000 in bond money the Reids had posted to partly satisfy the judgment, and won an order to seize several vehicles, farm equipment, tools and even cattle to pay toward the remaining amount.
