Argument over cigarettes turns deadly

- slannen@herald-leader.com

A caregiver in a Montgomery County veterans home was stabbed and killed Monday night, apparently in a dispute over cigarettes.

Darrell Neeley, 51, died from stab wounds caused by a pocketknife, Montgomery County Coroner Wallace Johnson said.

Kenneth Eugene Brasiel, 55, was charged with murder and lodged in the Montgomery County jail.

The stabbing occurred about 7:30 p.m. at a community care residency home for VA patients at 100 Yeller Hoss Lane, Montgomery sheriff Fred Shortridge said.

The stabbing stemmed from an apparent confrontation over cigarettes, the sheriff said.

He probably got fed up with being badgered about smoking. All smokers are tired of the lies and being treated like second class citizens and being expected to fund the shortfalls caused by bad management.

Darrel, was a real nice guy , he didnt deeserve what happened to him!! He really liked his job, they werent allowed to smoke after a certain time, it was his job to take there smokes at a certain time. The man did not want to give up his smokes to Darrell. We all from Cinn. loved Darrell, Pray for his soul , thank you.

More tragedy caused by smoking. There is no good in it. Smokers want their rights and then expect the rest of society to rescue them when they lose their health.

What a shame that 2 lives are lost because of cigetettes. The poor guy that needed a smoke had no life, and he took away the other ones chance of enjoying a life. Sad!

I think it is a shame that a life was taken over a pack of cigetettes. I’m a smoker myself and yes I’m tired of people always putting me down for smoking. I feel that a smoker’s rights have been taken away because of other people and want they want. Alot of people who put us down has never smoked and don’t know what it is like to be addicted. There are some smells that I don’t like or that interfear with my breathing like strong perfume’s, but I don’t see there rights being taken away or there not told if you where that type of perfume you have to stay outside. I think that everbody needs to mind there own business. If you don’t like it then don’t go around it. I’m sorry for the lost of life and yes the man that stabbed him should be punished. But I think some people has gone overboard on this smoking band. There are far more serious things that need to be taking care of than a smoking band.
