The granddaughter of a 78-year-old Lexington woman who was beaten to death in her home last week pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges Wednesday afternoon.
Heather R. McGlothen, 22, has been charged with murder, burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card and tampering with evidence. She entered the not-guilty plea in a video arraignment in Fayette District Court.
Her co-defendant, boyfriend Dominique D. Lewis, 26, pleaded not guilty to the same charges.
McGlothen and Lewis are accused of fatally beating Marilyn Hegge at her home on Red River Drive. Hegge, a retired nurse, had allowed McGlothen to stay at her home off and on for several months, police said.
McGlothen and Lewis are being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
