Lexington police to accept anonymous texts, e-mails

Lexington police’s Bluegrass Crime Stoppers has announced new ways for people to anonymously report information about crimes through text messaging and e-mail.

To anonymously report information by text, send “tips2020” plus the message to 274637 (CRIMES).

Tipsters can send anonymous e-mails through the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers Web site, www.bluegrasscrimestoppers.com.

Bluegrass Crime Stoppers can also be reached by calling (859) 253-2020 or 1-877-970-2020 at any time.

Tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

“With this new technology that guarantees anonymity, we are able to offer numerous ways for you to make a difference,” said John Kirkland, a member of the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers Board. “It is easy, discreet, and the right thing to do.”

I don’t believe for one second that the person wanting to report someone STAYS annonymous. Anyone that does, must have must have gullible tattooed to their forehead

    It’s a good start; however,

    (1) the hyperlink to http://www.bluegrasscrimestoppers.com does not work

    (2) I’d be surprised if the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers website did not collect the basics of the transmittal, including the IP address, the operating system of the computer you are using, and the type and release of the web browser. If not delivered as part of the applications package, it will be recorded in the log files

Can’t they trace phone numbers and computer useage. Yeah that is real anonymus
