RICHMOND — A Richmond woman was arrested Tuesday for exposing her unborn son to cocaine and marijuana.
Vickie S. Cornett, 35, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
Cornett was arrested more than a week after Richmond police began to investigate her.
On Oct. 14, Madison County Social Services informed investigators that Cornett had given birth on Sept. 16 to a boy who exhibited symptoms of drug withdrawal, police say.
Tests performed after the boy was born at Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond revealed cocaine and marijuana in his system.
Cornett is being held in the Madison County jail on a $7,500 cash bond.

What an hypocritical society we live in. A woman can abort/kill an unborn fetus and it’s perfectly legal, but let her expose it to drugs and we throw her under the jail. Can’t have it both ways, folks. Either the fetus is a human being and both actions are wrong, or it’s not, and both actions are fine.

What a ridiculous argument and ignorant way to turn this into an abortion issue. This story proves the destructive power of addiction and it is so terribly sad. It should not however serve as evidence for your ignorant beliefs about abortion.
Horrible. It is so in humaine to an unborn baby like that. I HATE DRUGS. They have ruint my family.
this isn’t about abortion at all and that doesn’t need to be brought into this, the fact is that some moms are legally required to take mind altering medications that are just as bad as any mentioned here and the fact is that they can do just as much damage, but they are being called prescriptions and treatments for stuff like this, and that in my humble opinion is what needs to stop, there is no difference in legal and illegal drugs as far as any of the affects of them as psychotropic drugs, the only thing different is the laws about these drugs and who is benefitting or being punished for what or who is having what pushed on them, legally or illegally makes little difference in my eyes!
Kelly we messed up not having you aborted……you idoit.
