Suspicious box on Main Street was harmless

Herald-Leader Staff Report

A box of empty wine bottles and broken glass closed Main Street in downtown Lexington for about an hour Wednesday morning until officials figured out what was inside.

The box was found in front of the Sunrise Bakery, 111 W Main Street, near Limestone. Lexington police responded and called for a hazardous-materials team, police Lt. Dan Hegeman said.

Main Street was closed between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Upper Street from 9:08 a.m. to 10:25 a.m., until officials opened the box and discovered it was trash, not a bomb inside, Hegeman said.

People are scared of their own shadow anymore. We have become a nation of cowards with a bogeyman lurking under every bed!

Sounds like Henry Earl may have “diffused” it before the Haz-Mat team got there.
