Two Lexington homeless men have been indicted on manslaughter charges in connection with the beating death of a man found dead on railroad tracks near Paris Pike.

On Aug. 7, an RJ Corman train struck Stephen Mazcyck of Lexington who had been placed on the tracks.

Steven D. Dykes, 44, and Charles M. Atkins, 49, who lived in a homeless camp nearby, were charged with first-degree manslaughter and tampering with evidence in connection with Mazcyck’s slaying.

Court records indicate that they’ve admitted to fatally beating Mazcyck and dragging him to the tracks.

A Fayette grand jury indicted the men as charged. The indictment became public on Tuesday.

The men, who are being held in the Fayette County Detention Center, are to be arraigned Thursday.
