Man convicted in killing of cousin

The Associated Press

A jury in Mayfield convicted a 19-year-old man of murder in the fatal shooting of his cousin.

The Paducah Sun reported the verdict was returned Thursday against Darien Dalton in the killing of Gerald Pittman Jr. in February 2007.

Jurors recommended the maximum murder sentence of life in prison.

Dalton’s lawyer said his client would take advantage of an automatic appeal under state law.

The prosecution said it was a revenge shooting because Dalton believed Pittman and three other men broke into the house of Dalton’s mother and pointed a gun at her.

The state claimed Dalton’s brother, James D. Dalton, lured Pittman to James Dalton’s mobile home to set up the killing.
