Man arrested in Winchester, police find pipe bombs

The Associated Press

WINCHESTER — Police in Winchester have arrested a man after finding pipe bombs in his apartment.

WKYT-TV in Lexington reported 45-year-old James Beschorner was arrested early Saturday.

The station reported that Beschorner was charged with criminal use of a weapon of mass destruction and wanton endangerment.

Police said he told them he built the two bombs to blow up tree stumps.

The station said Beschorner told reporters he didn’t know where the bombs came from.

State police detonated the bombs, which they said contained ammonium nitrate and black powder.

When did Winchester become part of Eastern Kentucky? Isn’t Winchester in Clark County? Isn’t Clark County next door to Fayette County? Isn’t Fayette County in Central Kentucky? Or did we change that too? Has the reporter or editor of this newspaper ever been to “Eastern Kentucky”? Is this reporter or editor even from Kentucky?

The Lexington Hearld-Leader should give a pre-employment geography test.

I agree with Mark. Headline is misleading–indicates man is from Eastern Kentucky. Doesn’t Eastern Kentucky get all the bad rap? Clark County and Fayette County is far from being perfect.Perhaps you could sell more papers to people in Eastern Kentucky (we can read) if you didn’t downgrade Eastern Kentucky so much.

Since when is a pipebomb a weapon of mass destruction? Yes, it could cause harm to several people, but it’s not taking out a city block or a town.

Well then, at what point does Eastern Kentucky start? East of Clark County?

Floyd borders Magoffin which is next to Wolfe, and beside that is Powell which is neighbors to Clark. I grew up in Floyd County which I always thought was in Eastern Kentucky. But applying your logic, I was actually living in Central Kentucky.

If they arrested the man in his apartment as the article states then I would think the man is a resident of Winchester. Which is not in Eastern Kentucky.

By-God let’s break away from the Commonwealth. Make Eastern Kentucky a sovereign state and watch the rest suffer without our coal severance tax! Then we can make our own Pipe Bombs Legally!

Is EKU in eastern Ky or central Ky?

    Eastern Kentucky University is misnamed.

  9. 9 Richard

EKU was originally slated to be in paintsville KY however Johnson County had too many republicans so the state assembly voted to move it to Richmond but failed to change the name,. By the way Johnson County is in EASTERN KY

Here here, Sir Richard. It’s time we succeeded from the commonwealth. Until Gov. Patton came along no one knew anything existed east of Mt.Sterling. I’ve worked for the state and been to trainings where us Eastern Kentucky folk were definitely looked down upon. Few west of Mt. Sterling know about people that wouldn’t hit a lick at a snake, but I’m sure there’s many of them all around the country, let alone the state. :) Beshear seems to recognize the entire state, But time will tell as the Senate obviously doesn’t care about anything other than Williams’ District. Now about the bombs. It looks like people are looking for weapons of mass destruction again. I wouldn’t classify a pipebomb as one, but then again, I think most fireworks should be legal. Now I realize that prevention would be much better than cleaning up a murder scene, but perhaps he’s being looked at little too seriously.
